The Atlantic Flyway

This is the sea-farer's route. Birds migrating from the Arctic Coastal Plain journey across Canada, stage in Labrador or Nova Scotia, then wing across the Atlantic Ocean to places as far south as the Lesser Antilles off the north coast of South America. The American Golden-Plover makes this arduous journey each fall. Our map of the Atlantic Flyway shows the journey of the Tundra swan, which stops short of the ocean journey, overwintering along the Atlantic seaboard. Click on the map in the sidebar to see an animated version of the Tundra swan's route along the Atlantic Flyway, or choose one of the other birds to learn more about that species.
