Heading Home

Heading Home Max has spent the first two winters of his life (and the summer in-between) living among the grasslands of Argentina. Now nearly 2 years old and ready to start a family of his own, Max is about to start for home - some 10,000 miles away.

In March, as the first days of spring arrive, Max and the other American golden-plovers head northwest over the upper Amazonian Basin and along the east flank of the Andes. Max and his friends are flying a different route than the one they took to get to Argentina. They fly out over the Gulf of Mexico.
